Alabama Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Project
Alabama SRTS is a new highway safety program that encourages K-8 school children to walk and bicycle to school. A high priority of SRTS is to contribute to the statewide effort around schools to get K-8 children more physically active, reduce the congestion around schools, and to make your community more walkable. The City of Brent submitted an application in 2008 and was awarded the Grant in 2009. The project will install sidewalks from Brent Elementary School on 4th street to Tabernacle Road around to Cahawba Glades Apartments and Wimberly Apartments. We plan to start construction in the near future.
